GOTHIC GOWN

This project was an independent study created to learn historic design and stitching techniques. This project used almost entirely hand dyed fabric and embroidery floss. I experimented with natural dyes such as Woad, Brazilwood, and Madder Root for my embroidery floss, and eventually landed on using RIT dye for the bulk of my fabric, as the colors were far more consistent in those samples. Throughout the process I researched historic sewing/finishing techniques and either applied them to the gown or created samples to learn the techniques.
